As assistants become a place to research and act, a business may need to win consideration before a person ever sees its website. Our thesis is that distribution will increasingly depend on whether an agent can find credible product information and turn it into a useful result. This is a direction to prepare for, not a prediction that every purchase will move into chat.

## The interface can move; the job remains
Consider a customer looking for dinner near a hotel. They can open maps, read menus, compare hours, and make a reservation. They can also ask an assistant to help with those steps. The underlying constraints do not disappear: location, opening time, dietary needs, availability, price, and permission to book.

The same pattern applies to a freelance project or software integration. The customer still needs a fit. The difference is that more of the comparison can happen outside a company’s carefully designed homepage. Product facts and action paths become part of the distribution surface.

## From winning the click to earning the next step
A traditional website often treats the visit as the beginning of the customer journey. In an agent-mediated journey, substantial evaluation may precede it. The visit might land directly on documentation, a specific product variant, or a booking page.

That changes the questions worth asking. Is the offer understandable when a single page is retrieved? Can a third-party source connect the brand to the correct product? Does the destination preserve the customer’s requirements? Can the next step be completed without guessing?

Our practical response is to organize work around three outcomes: **get found, get understood, get used**. None is sufficient alone. Search visibility without reliable facts wastes attention. Excellent documentation without exposure remains undiscovered. A compelling recommendation followed by a broken handoff loses the opportunity.

## What could become more valuable
- **Specific expertise:** A page that answers a difficult customer question gives a system something useful to retrieve.
- **Current facts:** Price, stock, service area, compatibility, and availability determine whether an option fits now.
- **Evidence:** Clear sources and limitations let an agent distinguish a claim from support for that claim.
- **Working interfaces:** A reliable purchase, booking, or API path turns consideration into action.

These are our hypotheses about durable business value. They do not require assuming that one agent platform wins or that a new protocol replaces the web.

## What remains uncertain
The mix of open web search, curated catalogs, commercial placement, and direct integrations will vary. Platforms can change interfaces and policies. Consumers may delegate research while retaining checkout. Some businesses will see referrals; others may receive direct tool calls or assisted conversions with incomplete attribution.

A sensible plan preserves optionality: maintain an accessible website, reliable product facts, and customer-owned interfaces. Add a distribution surface when you can name the audience it reaches and measure a meaningful outcome. Avoid rebuilding the business around an unverified universal agent directory.

## Why we are building ByAgents
We want to help businesses earn a place in these journeys. Our starting point is concrete preparation and diagnosis, including discovery plans and API contract checks. The broader ambition is distribution that can be traced to useful customer activity. The proof must come from observed use, not the number of files published or agents simulated.

Start with one customer task and one route. If the path works, maintain it and expand. If it does not, find the missing step. That is a practical way to act on the shift without pretending the future is already settled.
